Where to get the desire to go further in business
"I think I'll sell the company and get a job," the client began the meeting. He runs a small successful business, but suddenly several unfavourable circumstances came together. He needed to find a solution and strengthen his motivation to continue to manage the pitfalls of business life.
The contracts are there, the people are missing
Within a short period of time, several key employees announced their imminent departure (moving abroad, going on maternity leave, etc.). This had a significant impact on the ability to fulfil contracted orders, plus the peak season was approaching. New orders continued to come in and potential clients also indicated demand.
An independent view from the outside
The owner was continuously receiving offers to buy the thriving company, so the way was open. But why sell a successful business that the owner had built from scratch? During the consultations we looked at the situation from different angles:
- Is it really that hard to find capable and motivated people?
- Where is the imbalance in the labour market and where does the supply of labour exceed the demand?
- How does the owner get used to the status of an employee after selling the company?
Creative solutions
We started looking for a novel solution. There is a significant shortage of part-time jobs on the Czech market. At the same time, working mothers are among the most loyal workers with precise time management, motivation and refined organizational skills.
Instead of exclusively full-time positions, we have advertised several positions with varying degrees of seniority and maximum flexibility. We have assembled a team of full-time and part-time employees, supplemented by freelancers working on projects.
Challenge for the company owner
Yes, we found a solution. However, even here, bread comes with two crusts. For the business owner, this means:
- Higher demands on team management
- The need to set up effective communication so that the right hand knows what the left hand is doing
- Scheduling shifts to avoid lack of workplaces
- Accepting that things are going to be a little bit different than before
What was
my consultancy job
Thank you for the opportunity to work on this job. The consultation included analysing the current situation, setting goals, and looking for possible solutions. I helped define the open positions and accompanied the owner to interviews with the finalists of the tenders. Based on their qualities, I helped build a team structure.
So far, everything is falling into place and only time will tell how satisfied the owner will be with the solution.
I appreciate his courage to step out of the full-time mainstream and open himself up to other possibilities. And to give opportunities to mothers who want to work but cannot be in the 9-to-5 workplace. I believe he will be happy with the outcome in the long run.
